Watching Movies in Sevilla

There are many places to watch movies in Sevilla, in English or Spanish, that include film festivals and cinemas small and large. You will find film events organized by the cultural centers by looking in El Giraldillo, the culture newspaper of Sevilla. To see short films for free, go to Sala La Imperdible or El Cachorro. The University of Sevilla also hosts movie nights on Mondays at the Uruguay Pavilion. The films start at 5:30 and 8 PM, and you can pick up tickets right at the nearby pavilion, though it is best to do so early to ensure you get a seat. In the summer months, you can enjoy films outside at various locations around Sevilla, such as Diputación, the Rectorado, and Alameda de Hércules.

There are a number of film festivals in Sevilla and around Andalucia. In October, you will see the Film and Sport Festival, showcasing movies from all over the world. The Festival of Ibero-American Cinema takes place in Huelva in late November and shows films from all Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries.

Spaniards tend to watch American movies dubbed in Spanish (that is part of the reason why the English level is so low in Spain). Watching movies in Spanish is not a bad idea, but is not really good idea either since the way the mouth moves does not correspond with the words they are saying!

If you want to watch V.O. (versión original) movies or a wide range of other films, go to Avenida de 5 Cines, which is located on Calle Marques de Parada. Visit the website for current movies and times!

The price is about 6€, or 5€ if you show your student ID. There are also discounts on Wednesday and Thursday nights for “spectator night” and “couples night”.
