Is it Hard to Meet Spaniards?

First let’s take a look at the main characteristics of Spaniards.
Spaniards are great people. They are very happy and always eager to get out and experience life. Having the opportunity to learn about their culture, their customs, and their city is priceless. At first, it’s kind of hard to meet locals just because of the language barrier, but that doesn’t mean that it’s impossible. Try to meet a few intercambios who are interested in practicing and learning with you, so you can hang out with them. There are many Spaniards who are eager to meet new people from the U.S. and practice their English, so make sure you get listed on your school intercambio database so that you can find one. In any case, the best and quickest way to meet Spanish people is by going out for a drink in the local bars where they hang out! They don’t normally go out during the week, so the best time to meet locals will be on the weekends.

Just a few things to note:
- They will never invite you to their house; they always hang out in the street!
- They never walk at home without shoes. They think they will catch a cold.
- Spaniards will drink beer only if it’s quite cold, normally Cruzcampo, made in Sevilla. It’s cheap and it’s good.
- They will wait at least 2 hours to take a shower after eating lunch or dinner.
- Dinner time is at 10pm (or later!).
- Lunch time is at 3pm; anything before that is just too early for them.
- Breakfast is at 10:30am.
- Siesta is more often taken during the summer when the temperature gets really high.
- Sevillanos either support Sevilla or Betis. Nobody supports Madrid or Barcelona as their first soccer team.
We hope you have a great time in Sevilla!
